North Carolina freshman David Wear sat out Wednesday night's game against Florida State and will likely miss the rest of the season, according to UNC athletic officials.
Associate Athletic Director Steve Kirschner announced after the game that Wear suffered an injured left hip in practice Thursday. After three days of examinations, doctors said Wear had loose bodies, likely cartilage, in his hip which caused a clicking sound when he ran.
Doctors will continue to look at Wear's hip, but Kirschner said that they do not expect Wear to be able to play the rest of the season. Wear was averaging 2.9 points in 10.4 minutes per game this season. He had appeared in every game before Wednesday's.
