TO THE EDITOR:
With Brandon Finch’s appointment as Carolina Athletic Association president, I feel that we need to review his ideas before he implements them. I’m most worried about the elimination of the phase system. My fear is that by eliminating the phase system, our very own “Krzyzewskiville” will emerge.
I realize that the point of this policy is to reward the more zealous fans with better seats, and I agree with that idea. But it’s also dooming us to flimsy tents and frigid nights. Imagine yourself in a tent on a windy day, reviewing for your biology exam and buried in tissues.
As a seriously dedicated fan, I can’t say that I’d be willing to live in a tent just to get a lower level seat when I’m already getting great tickets by registering online.
The problem here is this: Some students either don’t want to sit in the upper level or they think they can’t get in without a lottery ticket. I went to every game (including Duke) my freshman year, often sitting in the upper level or waiting for a seat in the stand-by line. I didn’t enjoy the game any less. Why can’t we just be happy with that?
