North Carolina continued its run to a second postseason tournament final in two years with its 68-67 overtime win against Rhode Island on Tuesday at Madison Square Garden.
Larry Drew II hit the game-tying bucket by slashing through the lane with under a minute left to send the game to an extra frame. With four seconds remaining in overtime, the Rams corralled a UNC rebound but Lamonte Ulmer tripped and lost possession.
UNC (20-16) advances to the NIT Championship game against Dayton on Thursday.
Deon Thompson tallied a double-double, scoring a team-high 16 points.
Rhode Island's Keith Cothran led all scorers with 23 points.
