After three years of preparation, multiple simulations, public media campaigns and collaborations with student government, administrators reached their goal: a calm day of course registration.
UNC debuted its new registration system Monday — part of the resource planning system called ConnectCarolina — and experienced no major problems, representing an accomplishment for the individuals who have been working for years to implement the system.
Course Registration on ConnectCarolina
-Students can register anytime after their registration appointment day and time. Appointments run from 8 a.m. to 3:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.
-Students who experience problems should visit connectcarolina.unc.edu/.
-Upcoming appointment dates: Today – Registration begins for undergraduates with seven terms in residence.
Wednesday – Registration begins for undergraduates with six terms in residence.
Thursday – Registration begins for undergraduates with five terms in residence.
Friday – Registration begins for undergraduates with four terms in residence.
ConnectCarolina, which will allow the University to consolidate many of its activities into one system, has cost $88.1 million, the largest non-capital expenditure in UNC history.
A total of 1,026 graduate students and others who have completed eight semesters registered Monday using the new system, which replaced Student Central.
“It’s actually going really, really well,” said Debra Beller, information communications specialist for ConnectCarolina, who noted that the first student to register completed the process within 31 seconds.
Only a handful contacted ITS with questions about registering, Beller added. Only one student sent in a help ticket to Information Technology Services regarding ConnectCarolina, and it was resolved later that day.
Beller said she thought the debut went smoothly because the system has been in the works for years.
“This product was so thoroughly tested before it went live that we were pretty confident about it,” she said.
Administrators said the main difference between Monday’s registration and process beginning today for undergraduates who have completed seven semesters is the sheer volume of traffic on the site, but they do not anticipate problems.
“I think it will go just as smoothly,” said Jerri Bland, director of ConnectCarolina.
