A blog can serve many different purposes: a journal, a diary, a yearbook, a portfolio, a collection of information, a source of entertainment or just a place to write down your ideas.
Blogs are a popular tool for UNC students as well. And students are finding countless numbers of ways to utilize them effectively.
For two students in particular, blogs serve as spaces to address varying subjects from music to food to fashion.
Blog: David J Speaks
Morris started his blog about a month and a half ago and now blogs three to four times a week. His blog contains a variety of popular music videos, excerpts from YouTube and other assortments from popular culture.
“I just like to blog about cool ideas and cool things,” Morris said. “My blog isn’t just for my own entertainment, but for everyone’s.”
He said he likes to think optimistically when it comes to blogs.
“Even if you don’t think people are reading what you have to say, keep writing. There are a lot of silent readers who are following your blogs but just don’t leave comments. Don’t quit just because you aren’t quite feeling the love.”

Blog: Tintin en Amerique
As an international student, Rouse first started his blog in order to keep his family in London updated about all the different things he was doing in the U.S. and at UNC. But now his blog serves as a canvas of various clothing fashions.
After a semester of personal blogging, Rouse began to write about the less personal world of fashion.
“I don’t really blog on the latest looks, the brand looks per se, but more so on street wear and things that you actually see students and people wearing,” Rouse said.
His blog pulls from a list of about 40 different websites to create his own page where he can post and talk about popular clothing trends.
