In a battle that went into extra innings, North Carolina finished their season with a 2-1 loss to defending national champion Washington in the Regional round of the NCAA Women’s College World Series.
After losing to the Huskies 1-0 on Saturday, the Tar Heels defeated Nebraska 1-0 in eight innings on Sunday to avoid elimination.
UNC continued to play Sunday when they took on Washington later that night.
The Huskies led the Tar Heels 1-0 until the seventh inning when catcher Ally Blake doubled to the left field and brought home pinch runner Tisha Mahon to tie the game. Washington would go on to win in the eighth inning.
The loss gave UNC a final season record of 42-20.
