The Daily Tar Heel

TO THE EDITOR:

About the letter in the May 20 issue from Michael Jones, who represents a wide variety of leftist groups and ideologies:

Jones says that UNC should waive the rules and not make Sara Isaacson repay the scholarship money which she got by misrepresenting herself when she entered the ROTC program.

She must have known about the “Don’t ask - Don’t tell” policy when she enrolled, but went in anyway.

Now she is praised by the big leftist for “honesty and integrity” for coming out as a lesbian to her ROTC commanders.

Where were her “honesty and integrity” when she misrepresented herself on enrolling in the ROTC? Maybe somebody will cobble up an excuse like “maybe she didn’t know she was a lesbian when she enrolled”. Sure! She made it to age 18, 19 or 20 without realizing her sexual preference? Or maybe she just thought she could get away with the deception. Neither the ROTC nor the University itself should divert money away from honest expenses to let her profit from her misrepresentation.
