After 22 years at the helm of UNC’s students, Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Affairs Melissa Exum will be leaving the University.
Exum will become Purdue University’s new vice president of student affairs.
“It’s a huge loss for us, but it’s a great move for Melissa,” said UNC Chancellor Holden Thorp. “She has done a great job at Carolina and we are proud of her.”
The appointment to become Purdue’s vice president of student affairs, effective Aug. 2, will leave an opening in UNC’s student affairs department.
Exum is currently responsible for enforcing UNC’s alcohol policy, honor code, harassment policies, diversity education and several other student issues. Exum will be heading similar departments at Purdue.
Exum has also been a speaker at Carolina Testing and Orientation Program Session (CTOPS), the new student orientation program at UNC, for several years.
Her colleagues say that her presence will be missed, as well as her professional demeanor.
Executive Director for Student Affairs Sarah Jonczak said that no decisions had been made about her replacement.
Exum could not be reached for comment.
