Va. fugitive arrested in Chapel Hill

Chapel Hill police arrested a fugitive on a warrant out of Fredricksburg, Va., Monday based on original felony charges of unauthorized use of vehicle and grand larceny, according to Chapel Hill police reports.

Robert Gerald Syrkes, 29, had permission to use a vehicle but left town without returning it on Jan. 17. At the same time, he stole an X-Box 360, said Natatia Blesdoe, public information officer for the Fredricksburg Police Department.

The car was later found in a nearby Virginia jurisdiction. Syrkes was arrested on these charges by Virginia police on Jan. 25 but failed to appear in court.

He was arrested at 11:04 p.m. Monday near the intersection of U.S. 15-501 and Mt. Carmel Church Road for additional misdemeanor charges of operating a car without a license and failure to show a driver’s license.

He is being held in Orange County Jail without bond.
