After overhearing all the chatter about the new “Connect Carolina” information management system implemented on campus, I have heard many pros and cons of the new system that aren’t clearly being conveyed.

I think the one missing link is a conversation forum to address the overall concerns and support of the new system itself. I think it would be beneficial to have a sort of “kvetching” and answer board for not only the new system but also the other new adjustments around campus.

There are many ways we could potentially deal with the new mass of information: a blog, a Q & A forum, an interview with the designers of the system or different departments (i.e. financial aid, cashier’s office, registrar) on how to navigate the system, a “try this, not that” tool bar, a small section or a button on the website devoted to “techie tricks.” UNC should definitely have a uniform location where we can all vent and learn the new tricks of the trade together. We could benefit from other mishaps around campus, interact, bring light to the frequently asked questions, correct misinformation and address other aspects of the ever changing tech-savvy innovations here at UNC.
