TO THE EDITOR:
As one of the UNC-Chapel Hill campus family I say welcome and welcome back.
For 15 years I have worked in buildings on Manning Drive, and so I am familiar with this street and the surrounding areas. Three people have died within a three-block area of my building. Please don’t become a statistic.
The medical complex on Manning, the ever-growing student housing around Manning, and the adjacent Columbia Street areas, are incredibly dangerous.
The three people who died were all struck by cars or a city bus. Staff walking from the Manning Drive parking decks to their workplace have been struck, bumped or had incredible, heart-stopping near misses with cars.
Please walk “defensively” while navigating the streets around campus. We don’t want to lose you.
