TO THE EDITOR:
Regarding “Righting the ship” (Aug. 31), I’d like to clarify that the interview I gave the DTH was not intended to create a divide or reflect negatively on the Housekeeping department.
Housekeeping is a tough job, and I respect all who perform these essential tasks to provide our students, faculty and staff with clean facilities.
It is a complex balancing act to meet the needs of the housekeepers I supervise, those of our campus and University policy.
I regret that my comments reported in the article about the parallels between my military service and my time as a manager at this great University were a product of the challenges and hectic pace of students returning and a new semester.
Supervisors and housekeepers alike are tested both physically and mentally more during this time of the year than any other. My priorities for housekeeping, our customers and getting the buildings cleaned are, I believe, headed in the right direction.
Our department’s managers and I are committed to working hard with our employees to give the best possible service to the University community. I hope that we can all move on from the issues reported on by the DTH in recent days.
