TO THE EDITOR:
We are hanging by a thread. The 21st century has presented heart-wrenching starvation, nuclear proliferation by rogue states, financial crises and global protectionism, natural disasters and collapsed state infrastructures, ethnic genocide, obstinate rivals and elusive peace processes, cyber terror, energy insecurity and environmental change.
The Carolina Way dictates that Tar Heels impact their community. We raise funds for disaster relief, cancer research and sustainable development projects. We advocate for human rights, civil rights, worker rights and an end to genocide. We facilitate micro-finance projects and global health research.
The impending elections offer us yet another method to affect change in our community.
With the unprecedented international challenges facing our generation, it will be demanded of the next wave of elected officials to curb current devastating trends. For this reason, it is imperative that you vote in November’s midterm elections.
President John F. Kennedy declared: “Let the word go forth from this time and place, to friend and foe alike, that the torch has been passed to a new generation of Americans — born in this century, tempered by war, disciplined by a hard and bitter peace.”
Be the next Greatest Generation, and cast your vote Nov. 2.
The world is waiting.
