Police arrested the thief of a UNC Department of Public Safety vehicle following a pursuit against traffic on Interstate 40 West, said Lt. Kevin Gunter of the Chapel Hill police.
Police encountered the stolen car within the past hour at the intersection of Estes Drive and Franklin Street before the suspect turned onto Interstate 40 West and drove against traffic with police in pursuit, Gunter said.
The suspect was arrested after colliding with a box truck and fleeing police, Gunter said.
Gunter said no one was injured in the chase.
