TO THE EDITOR:
At a recent “March for Life” rally, Senator Richard Burr commented that his greatest fear over repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” was that “people who truly believe in Jesus Christ won’t want to be chaplains in the military.”
Frankly, this statement is offensive to both Christians and homosexuals.
Besides implying that being homosexual and Christian is incongruous, Senator Burr suggests that true Christians would and should refrain from providing spiritual guidance to someone because of whom they choose to love.
Regardless of one’s feelings on homosexuality, I doubt Jesus would have turned his back on any person.
Projecting judgmental opinions and thoughts under the guise of “Christian morals” is harmful not only to the church, but to humanity as a whole. Judge not, lest ye be judged, Senator Burr.
