TO THE EDITOR:
Recently, The Daily Tar Heel published an article highlighting a community meeting meant to address future downtown plans and how they might affect the Northside community.
In light of recent public backlash to projects such as Greenbridge, I found the prospects of such a meeting intriguing and certainly its accounts newsworthy. However, there was no follow up coverage of the meeting in the DTH. Apparently nobody took the time to attend the meeting and hear what was actually said.
Failing to report insight from the meeting may have been an oversight, but it too closely parallels the recent actions of leaders in this town to go unnoticed. Holding town meetings are only useful if the input of town residents is actually valued (so far it has not been), just as reporting about an event can only be impactful if there is actual coverage from the event!
