The North Carolina men’s basketball team leads rival Duke 51-39 at halftime at the Smith Center.
The winner of the game will own the ACC regular season championship.
UNC started three walk-on seniors, a grad student and Kendall Marshall to start the game. While the move surprised some, the walk-ons made head coach Roy Williams look smart, leaving 95 seconds into the game up 3-0.
Kendall Marshall is the team’s leading scorer, scoring 12 points on 5-of-6 shooting from the field. He and Harrison Barnes have carried the load offensively, as Barnes chipped in nine points on his own.
The Tar Heels shot 57.9 percent from the field. As good as the Tar Heels have looked, the Blue Devils have looked as bad, shooting 37.1 percent.
North Carolina has held a lead as large as 14 and has 24 points in the paint.
If not for 12 points from Duke’s Seth Curry, UNC’s lead would be larger.
