The Daily Tar Heel

The graphic signs in the Polk Place quad advocating for an end to animal cruelty will be up through the week until Thursday. The signs are sponsored by Helping Paws, a committee of Campus Y at the University.

The assembly is officially called the Liberation Project and is the brainchild of peta2, which organizers say is the world’s largest youth animal rights organization.

The group will also be hosting Animal Awareness Week through Thursday in the Pit from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. with information about various animals, with actual animals on hand.

Helping Paws aims to raise awareness in the area about pressing animal welfare and rights issues, such as companion-animal overpopulation, cruelty to animals, wildlife preservation, animal testing and farmed animal welfare.
