If you don’t like Snoop’s lyrics, don’t go to concert

TO THE EDITOR:

We’re all grown-ups here. If people find Snoop Dogg offensive, then simply don’t go to the concert. The student body made a concerted effort to get Snoop to come to UNC, and it deserves to be rewarded.

So what if the event is promoting a commercial product not affiliated with the school! What about Nationwide’s “The World’s Greatest Tar Heel in the World” campaign? Is being semi-affiliated with a sports program sufficient to satisfy this requirement?

A Snoop concert would be a great experience for a lot of students and, like it or not, would enrich their experience at Carolina. Ten years from now, when people talk about fun times they had on campus, I’m sure someone out there will remember when Snoop “D-O-double-G” stormed campus and proved why UNC is the best college in the nation!

As for the drug references, it’s not like we don’t host Lewis Black every year and listen to him colorfully recollecting his drug-laden days at UNC. Even if he does have great political commentary, he basically speaks equally about his trips with LSD and his rampant marijuana use as well.

But hey, if all else fails, I say let Snoop Dogg open for one of Carolina’s wonderful a cappella groups. I am sure the Clef Hangers, Achordants, Loreleis or Sababa would love to have such a great opening act, and then everyone would stick around for the “main event.”
