TO THE EDITOR:
An important factor missing from current discussions of IFC’s Community House plan is data from professionals on crimes and a safety plan for nearby childcare facilities.
As a parent, I am strongly against the idea of building any at-risk facility next to childcare facilities. N.C. State Regulation requires that “Each child care facility shall be located in an area which is free from conditions which are considered hazardous to the physical and moral welfare of the children in care.” Our town should put our children’s safety first! Sadly, we are already spending our children’s money in this economic crisis.
I support building a new community house for our homeless citizens (as long as it is not located next to childcare facilities). I believe our Town Council members should do their job and find the best location for the Community House, which will provide exciting opportunities as pointed out by Don Boulton, IFC Board of Directors.
