TO THE EDITOR:
I’m extremely disappointed with how the University is handling the situation with Snoop Dogg. I feel that the Union Board is being extremely hypocritical, as CUAB has hosted Big Boi and Fabolous, both of whom are also weed enthusiasts. Or what about when we hosted Gym Class Heroes, who sing a song about cocaine titled “Viva la White Girl?”
Snoop Dogg is not only a hip-hop legend, but he has worked to eliminate gang violence, founded a football program for at-risk youth, as well as coached his son’s high school football team. Can’t we point out his positive contributions to the community rather than the negative? We should be honored and appreciative that he is willing to come to UNC, and welcome him as any other guest.
Just two years ago, UNC students were arrested for 197.6 grams of cocaine, one of whom was a member of Chi Omega. In my four years at UNC, I have witnessed many students involved in such drug use.
If we can’t abolish the use of cocaine among our own students, isn’t it hypocritical to say we can’t host Snoop Dogg at UNC because of the “unfavorable image he could have on the University” due to his stance on marijuana?
