Four students from Chapel Hill-Carrboro City Schools received 2011 North Carolina Teaching Fellows scholarships.
The Teaching Fellows program, started in 1986 by the General Assembly, provides students with a $26,000 loan. The loan is forgiven if the Fellow teaches for four years in a North Carolina public school or U.S. Government school.
Fellows also get to take part in academic and summer enrichment programs while they are in college.
There are currently 3,925 Teaching Fellows teaching in 99 of the state’s 100 counties.
The CHCCS students who received the award are Kira Virginia Frescoln and Adam Douglas Glasser of Carrboro High, Madelieine Joelle Abrams of Chapel Hill High and Jonathan James Howes of East Chapel Hill High.
