GreekGroove is valuable, QuickHit was not fair

TO THE EDITOR:

As we opened our DTHs yesterday, we were surprised and disappointed to see GreekGroove with a thumbs down in the “Quick Hits” — the same thumbs down you’ve given to the ALE, Duke, and gun pointing this semester. Was our effort at fundraising for a great cause really that bad?

Since you took the liberty of making assumptions about our dieting habits, we feel it’s only fair we make a few assumptions about why you decided GreekGroove deserved a thumbs down:

Maybe you didn’t like that we raised “some money,” only $6,115 in our first year.

Or maybe it was our choice of philanthropies. Is a disorder that affects around 10 million women that is especially relevant on a college campus not a worthy cause?

It could’ve been the “provocative” nature of the dances. If you attended the event you would’ve realized that the dances and outfits were pre-screened for the theme of women’s empowerment.

For what it’s worth, your Editor-in-Chief served as a judge for the event and stated that it “was really well-done and (she) enjoyed taking part.” We are the first to admit that the Greek community is not perfect, but at least we are making a concerted effort to acknowledge our problems and to improve ourselves from within instead of just falling back on tired stereotypes. We wish we could say the same for the writer of QuickHits.
