TO THE EDITOR:

Every day I’ve been reading these editorials and letters on why guns should or should not be allowed on campus.

What everyone fails to mention is the fact that guns and alcohol do not mix. We live on a college campus, surrounded by alcohol. You’re worried about the next Virginia Tech massacre? If guns were commonplace on campus, all it would take is one drunken hothead to whip out his 9mm the next time he gets pissed at someone for cutting him in the beer keg line.

You can say that people aren’t stupid and would never do something like that, but how often do you see a fight at a party or read about some altercation in the police log?

This isn’t a matter of amendment rights. It’s a matter of safety.
If guns were allowed on campus, I would never have chosen to attend this school. How can someone feel safe the next time they’re at a bar knowing that everyone around them is packed and loaded?

For every Virginia Tech massacre, there will be dozens of drunken gun-related casualties. How is nobody else seeing this?
