TO THE EDITOR:
To cite there exists a need for a “merit and punishment system” for those who “abuse” the basketball ticket policy (“Same old game,” Apr. 18) is simply a travesty. This is UNC basketball. Incentives should not be necessary to watch our cherished basketball team play in the Smith Center.
Had the editorial board and other students attended the recent Ticket Forum hosted by the CAA, they would have learned that N.C. State is disposing of their merit system because of student dissent. Additionally, you would have heard from members of the Ticket Office that our current computer system for distributing tickets is not capable of a merit and punishment system.
Yes, the CAA is choosing to focus its efforts on fostering greater awareness of the policy, but we are also working with the Ticket Office to make turning back unusable tickets to other students more convenient and simple. This may include registration sign-ups closer to the date of the game, earlier ticket notification emails and email reminders about registration deadlines.
For those who yearn for a merit system, join Carolina Fever, as it already operates as one.
The two-ticket policy satisfies the majority while providing multiple ways into games for those who truly want to be there. And that is the status quo.
