TO THE EDITOR:
Recently, the DTH has been discussing some really important issues — gun control on campus, women’s rights, the budget cuts, etc.
However, I feel that one highly important topic is being avoided: the burden of the fraternity brother and his shorts.
I was walking with a group of friends the other day and a frat boy passed by wearing an indescribably short pair of chinos and showing off his “man thighs.” Upon his passing by, my friends began to make fun of him immediately. I was shocked and disheartened by their laughter. The short shorts and the “man thigh” are the defining traits of a brother.
Being able to have the confidence to wear shorts six to eight inches above one’s knee and exposing their pale thigh is a symbol of not only virility, but also confidence.
As a former fraternity brother, I know of that feeling of empowerment that one experiences when they slip on a short pair of chinos.
Feeling the cool wind brush against your legs and having the power to look a person in the eye and make them envious of your glorious thighs is the essence of awesome. However, my current “GDI status” is starting to change me, and unfortunately I can no longer pull off such a task.
So, this is to you, my brothers. Wear your pastel colored chinos with pride and be proud of your man thighs. Strange looks and mild chuckles are only signs of envy.
