The Environmental Law Institute has awarded UNC alumnus Todd Miller, executive director and founder of the N.C. Coastal Federation, with a National Wetlands Award.
Miller has worked in coastal wetland protection for three decades. In 1982, he started the NCCF, which now has 20 staff members who work on projects ranging from local protection efforts to multimillion dollar initiatives.
The group has been involved in every major coastal policy issue for the past 28 years.
The awards are presented annually to individuals who work to protect, restore and educate others about wetlands.
The Environmental Law Institute administers the program, which is supported by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, USDA Forest Service, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Federal Highway Administration and NOAA Fisheries.
