After a year of investigation and uncertainty surrounding the North Carolina football program, the NCAA outlined a litany of violations in its notice of allegations to the University today, including improper academic assistance, impermissible benefits and instances of special treatment.
In the 42-page notice, the NCAA asked the notice also be sent to former defensive line coach John Blake, who was revealed to have had financial ties with an agent at the heart of the investigation, and to former tutor Jennifer Wiley, who contributed to the improper academic assistance, paid for athletes’ parking tickets and refused to be interviewed by the NCAA.
Blake, Wiley and University officials were given until Sept. 19 to respond, with a probable hearing on Oct. 28. Head coach Butch Davis is among several officials required to attend the meeting, which also falls the day before UNC’s homecoming game against Wake Forest.
