Georgia Tech racked up 496 yards of total offense on its way to a 35-28 win against North Carolina at Bobby Dodd Stadium.
In UNC’s first loss of the season, redshirt freshman tailback Giovani Bernard rushed for a career-high 155 yards — including a 55-yard touchdown to tie the score in the fourth quarter. Bernard also scored on the Tar Heels’ first drive of the game to give UNC a 7-0 lead.
Coming into Saturday’s game, Georgia Tech led the nation in total offense. And against the Tar Heels, the Yellow Jackets didn’t slow down.
Quarterback Tevin Washington completed 10 of 14 passes against UNC and junior wide receiver Stephen Hill had six receptions for 151 yards.
Redshirt sophomore quarterback Bryn Renner — who completed 17 of 25 passes — went into the contest having only been sacked once. But the Georgia Tech defense came up with seven sacks Saturday — two of which came in North Carolina’s final drive of the game.
