UNC football to vacate all 2008 and 2009 wins, fine itself $50,000

In response to the NCAA’s notice of allegations, North Carolina proposed sanctions which will include vacating all football victories from the 2008 and 2009 seasons and paying $50,000 in fines to the NCAA.

Other self-imposed penalties include the reduction of aid grants by three each year starting in 2012-13 and ending in 2014-15. In addition, UNC will self-impose two years of probation beginning today, according to the response.

The University released its response to the NCAA’s notice of allegations this afternoon, after receiving the notice on June 21.

“We have acknowledged our violations, and we’ve responded in the way you would expect of this University,” Chancellor Holden Thorp said in a press release. “We think that the sanctions we have proposed accept responsibility and, at the same time, give our current and future student-athletes and coaches every opportunity for success. We go before the NCAA Committee on Infractions on October 28, and that will be another important milestone.”
