Police identify man found dead in Bolin Creek Saturday morning

Chapel Hill police have identified the 24-year-old man found dead in Bolin Creek Saturday morning as Shane Scott Pease of Fort Bragg.

Chapel Hill police are investigating the death after Pease was found laying in Bolin Creek at around 9 a.m. Saturday morning.

A jogger found Pease, who is not a UNC student, unresponsive and EMS later declared him deceased, according to a Chapel Hill Police Department press release. The man was found just north of the Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and Hillsborough Street intersection, the release states.

Lt. Kevin Gunter, Chapel Hill police spokesman, said Pease’s body has been taken to the medical examiner to determine cause of death. Police said they will have additional information about the ongoing investigation Monday at earliest.
