BLACKSBURG, VA — North Carolina is holding its own against the No. 9 team in the country at halftime.
The Tar Heels trail the Virginia Tech Hokies 10-7 after two quarters in Lane Stadium.
UNC defensive lineman Sylvester Williams sacked Va. Tech quarterback Logan Thomas and forced a fumble on the first play of the game. Three plays and 20 yards later, the Tar Heels were on the board following a Giovani Bernard touchdown.
Virginia Tech tied the game at the end of an 18-play, 95-yard drive that lasted nearly eight minutes. The Hokies would later add a field goal.
UNC kicker Thomas Moore missed a 43-yard field goal with 50 seconds left in the half that would have tied the game.
Quarterback Bryn Renner has connected on most of his passes despite the near-freezing temperature. He’s 5-for-9 tonight with 66 yards.
Bernard left the game with two minutes remaining in the half after a helmet-to-helmet hit. He officially has a head injury and his status will be updated after halftime.
