UNC student a suspect in Apex bank robbery

Apex police are searching for a UNC student suspected of robbing a Sun Trust bank Monday evening.

Gordon Miller Goodwin, 22, was named a suspect on Wednesday for the robbery of the bank inside of Kroger on 940 U.S. Highway 64.

Capt. Ann Stephens of the Apex Police Department said police do not know of Goodwin’s whereabouts.

Goodwin is a white male, 5’6’’ with brown hair and blue eyes, police said. He might be driving a 2002 black Chrysler Sebring.

“All I can say is that we will aid the investigation as needed,” Department of Public Safety Spokesman Randy Young said. “Apex has our full cooperation. I think if there was any imminent danger then Apex will communicate that to us.”

Police said Goodwin passed a note to the teller at the bank and commanded money.

“He didn’t go in with a gun or anything,” Stephens said. “I have no idea why the teller complied.”
