TO THE EDITOR:
As president of St. Anthony Hall (fraternity of Delta Psi Xi), I am required to be HAVEN trained each semester.
This requirement, which also applies to my fellow chapter officers, has undeniably had a positive impact on our fraternity.
Any campus community should be able to recognize relationship violence, as well as possess the skills to handle such a situation correctly.
As a chapter we have also hosted One Act trainings for all our members. I believe this has helped to create a safe and compassionate atmosphere at our events.
Though it should be noted that all fraternity and sorority presidents have been One Act-trained by the Office of Fraternity and Sorority Life, requiring chapters as a whole to participate in this type of training would be a big step forward in sexual assault awareness at UNC.
While I can’t speak for other members of the Greek system, my chapter and I would be fully supportive of such a training requirement.
