Steve Case, co-founder of AOL, will be the University’s spring commencement speaker, according to a release from UNC spokesman Mike McFarland.
Chancellor Holden Thorp made the choice for the May 12 event in consultation with UNC’s commencement speaker selection committee.
“Steve Case is one of America’s greatest innovators, an enlightened philanthropist and a champion for entrepreneurs,” Thorp said in the release.
Case co-founded AOL in 1985. He is now chairman and CEO of Revolution, an investment firm that has backed companies like LivingSocial and Zipcar.
The University’s commencement speakers appear free of charge each year.
