Bringing in 2,274,793 votes in North Carolina, Gov. Mitt Romney won 51 percent of the vote in the Tar Heel State.
Though he received 96,999 more ballots in N.C., Romney lost the election to President Barack Obama, who received 303 electoral college votes.
While counties like Mecklenburg and Wilkes served as blowout races for the Democratic and Republican parties respectively, many of the state’s counties saw much closer races. For example Romney won Dare County by only 26 votes.
