The No. 17 North Carolina women’s basketball team saw an 11-point lead dissolve during the first half of its meeting with No. 10 N.C. State, which gradually clawed back to take a 40-39 lead at halftime in Raleigh.
The Wolfpack, undefeated at Reynolds Coliseum in 2013-14, took a one-point lead with 28 seconds remaining. Myisha Goodwin-Coleman stripped UNC center Stephanie Mavunga on the defensive end and sprung Len’Nique Brown for an incisive drive and layup.
UNC freshman Diamond DeShields led the Tar Heels with 11 first-half points, but she struggled to find her rhythm and shot just 4-10 from the floor.
N.C. State has won eight of its last nine games since losing Jan. 9 to UNC in Chapel Hill, including an active six-game winning streak. UNC, however, has won its last five games against the Wolfpack, a stretch that dates back to February 2011.
