SAN ANTONIO — Though North Carolina freshman Nate Britt tried to call a last-second timeout, officials ruled the call came too late, ending No. 6 seed UNC's season with an 85-83 loss to third-seeded Iowa State.
UNC had led the Cyclones by as much as eight points in the last five minutes of Sunday night's NCAA tournament third-round matchup, but the Tar Heels couldn't hold off Iowa State's DeAndre Kane, who scored the Cyclones' final two field goals.
Kane was the game's leading scorer with 24 points, while sophomore Marcus Paige led UNC with 19.
Iowa State will move on to face Connecticut in the Sweet Sixteen.
