The person who was speeding westbound on N.C. 54 toward Durham and then eastbound toward UNC campus Friday morning has been charged with felony speeding to elude arrest, felony hit and run, careless and reckless driving, failure to yield to a blue light and siren, resisting arrest and other misdemeanor traffic charges, according to a press release from the Chapel Hill Police Department.

The Chapel Hill Police Department has apprehended Dontay Antwann Rone in connection with the pursuit, and he is currently being evaluated at UNC Hospitals, according to the release.

Rone was speeding at about 9:56 a.m. this morning and fled the police to Durham, where he hit a vehicle and then turned around, heading toward campus.

Rone collided with a second vehicle at the corner of South Road and Country Club Road, after which he fled on foot. He was then apprehended in the School of Government parking deck.
