Projects and Investigations Director Samantha Sabin talked to students and alumni from the UNC-system at Charlotte Pride, the largest LGBT Pride event in the Carolinas, about what the festival means to them.

Brittney Glover, UNC class of 2014

I'm psyched that they're doing it here in the South. You wouldn't expect Charlotte of all places to really have something this big especially. To cover most of Uptown and there are so many different people here I would not expect to be at a gay pride event, it's really cool.

William Hashemi, UNC class of 2002

To me, it means that (short pause) I guess on a human rights level, people's individual liberties are respected more in more places than just liberal islands like Chapel Hill.

Adriana Iturbide, UNC class of 2014

I think it's important. When I first moved, you wouldn't have seen Pride in Charlotte. There's definitely work to be done but I'm definitely glad that it's happening.
