According to Forbes Magazine, binge drinking is quickly becoming a thing of the past. Millennials are turning from bingeing to drinking in moderation. The National Institute on Alcohol Abuse and Alcoholism defines binge drinking as four and five drinks in about two hours for women and men, respectively. The Daily Tar Heel asked UNC students: Do you binge drink?
“I do not binge drink. I personally wouldn’t want to live my life in a way that I wouldn’t remember things in the morning. I see binge drinking as being very counterproductive to that, so it’s not something that I would personally ever do."
-Trevor McPherson, biology and music, sophomore
“I would say I don’t binge drink regularly, maybe once or twice a semester. I think sometimes it’s an accident, and usually I don’t because I want to remember what happened, and I want to be in control.”
-Lucy Davis, global studies, senior
“I remember when I was here at my orientation. They said that binge drinking was one of the big reasons that tuition was going up at UNC because of all of the funds that they were having to put toward the clean-up process of binge drinking. And I would say that the effects on the human body are pretty detrimental. It’s definitely a bad thing, but it’s still something that happens unintentionally.”
