Letter: Humans have the duty to help others

TO THE EDITOR:

As explained by an extraordinary public policy professor here at UNC, the concept of social justice can be imagined as a pie.

When we extend and promote the rights of one group, we’re not taking away the rights and liberties from another group. We’re not taking away a slice of your, or anyone’s, pie.

We’re just making the pie bigger and making sure that everyone eats at the table.

When you fail to care, represent and speak for those who cannot do so for themselves, don’t be surprised when no one’s there to do so for you in the time of your need.

As human beings, we have the basic duty to serve others.

As a Tar Heel, we have the duty to do it well.
