TO THE EDITOR:
I much appreciate how schools like the University of North Carolina promote diversity, but I’ve noticed a trend at UNC — whole departments made up by nearly 90 percent by white women.
For example, I was considering entering the Master’s program in counseling, but when I look at their page, there’s 30 plus folks in the program, one woman of color, one dude, and mostly white women — THAT is diversity?
It’s the same in early childhood education — an entirely female department.
Where’s the outreach?
Where’s the diversity?
Shouldn’t the school be trying to recruit more male candidates?
Is the goal of the school to only admit white women and have entire departments be for white women only?
UNC is sending a message — if you’re male, you need not apply — and IMO that needs to change.
