Milk production has stopped at Maple View Farms after a fire started in the machine shop around 1 p.m. Sunday. Ice cream that has already been made will continue to be sold for the time being.
Peggy Hopkins, bookkeeper at Maple View Farms Milk Company, said the the cause of the fire is currently unknown and under investigation.
Hopkins said the fire, which occurred at the milk processing plant, damaged some of the machinery.
"(The fire) got into rafters of the cinder block building and damaged electrical wiring," she said.
The farm will not be able to process anything for about 4 to 6 weeks. They are planning to rebuild the damaged areas.
"They have a good bit of ice cream in the freezer," Hopkins said.
Maple View will continue to sell ice cream while they have it. They are still holding their customer appreciation and family fun day as planned on Sept. 18.
"We are notifying customers about the fire and will let them know as soon as we get up and running," she said.
