The Daily Tar Heel is known for being a legacy newspaper that tells the stories of the campus and the community. But there are so many stories within the newsroom that never make it to the public. So we’re putting faces to bylines, bringing the people into our world at 151 E. Rosemary St.
Know your newsroom. This week, meet Jessica Swanson, assistant copy editor and almost-legal adult.
In keeping with the apparent theme, I will be celebrating my birthday in less than a week.
It’s my 20th, which, according to my roommate, is “the most useless birthday.” Still, I think it’s significant. I’m moving out of my teen years and into Real Adulthood (minus the taxes and double the exhaustion).
These are some songs that keep me from running from the future.
Some are about being comfortable with myself, some about being confident, and some about looking forward to tomorrow. There are some songs about making mistakes and dealing with them. Songs about listening to other people— and about learning when not to listen to them.
Also, I’d like to point out an injustice: there are no songs about turning 20. No Stevie Nicks’ “Edge of Twenty,” no Taylor Swift’s “20.”
