Former Democratic Texas state Sen. Wendy Davis, will campaign for Democratic Presidential Candidate Hillary Clinton in Raleigh, Carrboro and Chapel Hill this Friday.
Davis achieved notoriety as a Texas state senator when she held an 11-hour long filibuster in 2013 against Texas senate bill 5, which would have increased abortion restrictions in the state.
Though the filibuster did not reach Davis' goal of midnight to delay the vote on SB 5, other delaying tactics from Senate Democrats managed to block the vote on the bill. In 2014 Davis had an unsuccessful run for Texas governor.
Davis will be speaking on the importance of electing Clinton as well as down-ticket Democrats in order to protect women's access to health care, close the pay gap and guarantee paid family leave. She will also discuss Clinton's plans for the economy.
Davis' event on Friday in Chapel Hill will be held at the Campus Y Courtyard, 180 East Cameron Ave, at noon.
