A hearing for Craig Stephen Hicks, scheduled for Oct. 13, was pushed back until January.
Hicks’ lawyer, Stephen Freedman, said the court proceedings were an ongoing matter at the Durham County District Courthouse. Further reasoning for the request was not given.
Superior Court Judge Orlando F. Hudson Jr. agreed to the request.
Craig Stephen Hicks is still in jail after being charged with three counts of first-degree murder for the Feb. 10 shooting of Deah Shaddy Barakat, 23, of Chapel Hill; Yusor Mohammad Abu-Salha, 21, of Chapel Hill; and Razan Mohammad Abu-Salha, 19, of Raleigh.
