Letter: Chapel Hill should support nation’s laws

TO THE EDITOR:

Your recent article entitled “Forum discusses immigrant rights and laws” exposes the hypocrisy and double talk which has run amok in Chapel Hill. Only in this “Alice in Wonderland” world can we pick and choose which laws to follow. If someone’s in this country illegally they are not an “at-risk resident” nor “undocumented.” A nation which does not follow its laws nor respect its borders is in disintegration.

Sadly, the author of this article does not know the difference between citizens and illegal immigrants, with an absurd statement such as “the panel stressed to the audience that their concerns lay with protecting the citizens of the area, not deporting them.”

If the town and the forum in this article want to lobby to change the immigration laws, that is their right, but pretending that something is legal when it is not, is a travesty. I want the Town of Chapel Hill to support the laws of the land as they exist, not as they wish them to be.
