Word On The Street: What are you most looking forward to for fall?

Ariel Wallace

Even though it's been around 80 degrees this week, fall starts on Friday.

Staff writer Marin Herold asked UNC students, "What are you most looking forward to for fall?"

First-year Ariel Wallace

Undecided

“I really enjoy seeing the leaves change and wearing scarves and boots and typical things like that and drinking coffee. Also, I love cool days, not extremely cold, so fall is a good in-between the summer and winter.”

Sophomore Olivia McPhaul

Media and journalism major

“Cooler weather. I think that is the main thing. I like sitting out on the grass, like I’m doing now, just enjoying the weather without sweating to death."

First-year graduate student Changjia Cai

Statistics and operations research

“I can go back to school. This is my first graduate year, and I hope to meet some new people and make some new friends. In summer, I stay at home and I think it’s quite boring alone. I hope to have fun with my friends. In fall, the NBA season restarts, and I watch lots of games, and it’s really interesting and fun.”

First-year Masai Ballew

Anthropology major

“The weather. I can wear comfy clothes, but it’s not too cold. No snow just yet. And also my classes — just getting into more difficult material.”

Second-year graduate student Travis Varner

Chemistry

“Probably having bonfires in my backyard at my house and having people over.”

Sophomore Ellie Wilson

Biomedical engineering major

“I think I’m most excited for all the fall activities that come around September and October, like apple picking and pumpkin carving. And just being outside in the nice weather and being in sweaters. Pretty much everything.”

First-year Nnanna Okafor

Psychology major

“The weather change, for one. Getting more involved in extracurricular activities, more clubs. I’m finally finding my way around the school and understanding more of what I’m doing, so I’ll definitely be able to enjoy my experience a little bit more.”

Sophomore Katie Davenport

English and global studies major

“I think what I’m most looking forward to about fall is probably the weather and the entire atmosphere of school. Especially being at Carolina and having all of the leaves change around campus and everything being in a different season, it kind of gives you a different taste of campus. Also, friendships become stronger and it’s not like ‘Oh I’m just meeting all of these people and we have a few classes together’ and things like that. But kind of settling into the routine, while still enjoying the change that comes with leaves changing and different kinds of smells and foods and that kind of stuff.”

Exchange student Sam Holloway

Business major

“For fall, I’m looking forward to meeting new people, experiencing Chapel Hill, football games as well. I am looking forward to seeing a few basketball games, because I go home in December, so yeah, mostly the sport.”
