A Saturday night message from Alert Carolina informed students of the death of a resident of Hinton James Residence Hall.
There is an ongoing police investigation but no suspicious circumstances were reported, the message said.
"...At no time was there danger to the Hinton James or greater campus community," the alert said.
Randy Young, media relations manager for UNC Public Safety, said there was no additional information to share at the time of this publication.
